Scaffold Training Institute (STI) in brief

INTRODUCTION:

The Scaffold Training Institute (STI) organize international training programs started in 1991 in Texas, USA by John Palmer. STI train employees and arrange programs for train the trainer worldwide. The courses can be in STI or client locations either in English or Spanish. STI certify personal to be trainer and deliver 3 types of courses and certificates. OSHEQ Planet instructors accredited to deliver these courses, and asking for the international certificate from STI. A refresher Retraining is recommended every five years. Consulting services including safety audits, gap analysis, accident investigation. The scaffold training courses by STI and OSHEQ Planet are OSHA comply.

TRAIN THE TRAINER COURSES:

The trainer course started from 3 to 5 days train the trainer course, which cover the following materials:

  • Overview of the 25 types of scaffolds in the OSHA regulations, and coverage of the OSHA requirements.
  • The recommended assembly procedures.
  • Walk by discussion of actual scaffold displays.
  • The manual including step by step assembly instructions and inspection checklists.
  • Practical hands-on erection and dismantling of several types of basic frame, tube & coupler, and “system” scaffolds.
  • Scaffold design & loading, including how to determine what size scaffold is needed, how to do scaffold drawings, how to calculate the scaffold material required, and how to calculate the weights on the scaffold planks, bearers, couplers, and posts (leg load).
  • The typical manufacturers allowable loading.
  • Powered suspended scaffolds.
  • Single and two point suspended scaffold (e.g., Spider, swing stage, etc.), rigging equipment, counterweight formula, and related topics.
  • Assembly of underhung (hanging) tube & coupler, cantilevering (knee out), frame scaffolds with putlog trusses and stairways.

  1. Scaffold User: 1 day classroom course to provide the scaffold users with the regulations, safety guidelines and procedures needed to recognize the hazards of the use of frame, rolling towers, tube & clamp and system scaffolding. Understand the procedures to control or eliminate those hazards. 
  2. “Competent Person” or “Competent Person/Inspector”: 1-2 days classroom course to provide scaffold erectors, inspectors and users with the regulations, safety guidelines and procedures needed to recognize and eliminate hazards in the field. Satisfactory achievement of the course objectives will assist the delegate in satisfying the OSHA Standards (29 CFR 1926.454).
  3. “Scaffold Erector” or “Competent Person/Erector”: 2-3 days classroom course to Provide scaffold erectors, inspectors and users with the regulations, safety guidelines and procedures needed to recognize and eliminate hazards in the field. Satisfactory achievement of the course objectives will assist the delegate in satisfying the OSHA Standards (29 CFR 1926.454).
